How it works

No new dashboard to learn — you keep using your favourite AI app and Spectosoft does the rest behind the scenes.

Step 1

You connect once using your normal Spectosoft email and verification code, the same way you trust the main app.

Step 2

You type what you want to know in everyday language — a person, a team, a date range, or a topic like risk or productivity.

Step 3

The assistant requests only the data your account is allowed to see, then explains the answer in a reply you can read or share.

What you can do

Everything below uses live Spectosoft data. You never need to memorise report names or internal system terms.

Sign in securely

You connect with the same Spectosoft account you already use in the browser. Sign in once in a popup window (email, password, then verification code). The assistant only gets access your role already allows — nothing extra is exposed.

Ask about productivity

Get answers about who is focused, how time is split between productive and distracting work, trends by day or week, and which apps or websites dominate. Useful for managers reviewing team performance or checking one employee’s report.

Review screens & activity

Pull up recent screenshots, session activity, and screen recordings when you need context for what someone was doing — for support, audits, or coaching conversations. Text read from screens (OCR) can be searched when you need to find specific content.

Risk & compliance insights

See risk summaries, flagged events, and alerts in plain language instead of clicking through many report pages. Helpful when you want a quick read on policy issues or unusual behaviour across the organisation.

Smart search & summaries

Ask broad questions and let the assistant search across your organisation’s monitoring data, or request a written summary for a person or time range — similar to an executive brief, grounded in live Spectosoft data.

People & organisation

Look up users in your company, see who belongs to which team, and keep questions scoped to the organisation you manage — the same boundaries as in the Spectosoft web app.

Connect your MCP client

Same Spectosoft login for every app below. Pick your tool and follow the steps.

Most clients use one connection URL and a short sign-in in the browser (email, password, then verification code — exactly like logging into spectosoft.com). You do not need to copy passwords into the AI app.

Cursor Recommended

Config file

  1. Open Cursor → Settings (gear) → search for MCP, or open the MCP panel from the sidebar.
  2. Click Add new MCP server (or edit mcp.json directly).
  3. Paste the connection block from the box below (same URL for everyone in your company).
  4. Save the file. Restart Cursor if the server does not appear immediately.
  5. Next to Spectosoft, click Connect. Your browser opens — sign in with Spectosoft email, password, then your verification code (email OTP or authenticator, same as the website).
  6. When the browser says you can close the tab, return to Cursor and start chatting in the AI panel.
Claude Desktop OAuth supported

Config file

  1. Fully quit Claude Desktop, then open the config file above in a text editor (create the file if it does not exist).
  2. Add or merge the mcpServers block from below under the top-level object.
  3. Save the file and start Claude Desktop again.
  4. Open Settings → Developer or MCP (wording may vary by version) and confirm Spectosoft appears.
  5. Use Connect / Authorize if prompted, then complete Spectosoft sign-in in the browser (email, password, verification code).
  6. In a new chat, ask a Spectosoft question to confirm data is loading.
VS Code (GitHub Copilot & MCP) VS Code 1.102+

Config file

  • Workspace: .vscode/mcp.json in your project
  • User profile: MCP section in VS Code Settings
  1. Install or enable GitHub Copilot and MCP support (your organisation may manage this centrally).
  2. Open Command Palette → MCP: Open User Configuration or add .vscode/mcp.json in your repo.
  3. Paste the mcpServers block from below.
  4. Reload the window (Command Palette → Developer: Reload Window).
  5. In the Copilot / agent panel, open MCP servers, select Spectosoft, and sign in via the browser when asked.
  6. Ask a test question about productivity or activity for your org.
Windsurf Cascade

Config file

  1. Open Windsurf → Settings → Cascade → MCP (or open the mcp_config.json path above).
  2. Add the Spectosoft server using the JSON block below.
  3. Save and restart Windsurf if needed.
  4. In Cascade, enable the Spectosoft MCP server and click Connect / Authenticate.
  5. Complete Spectosoft login in the browser (same credentials as spectosoft.com).
  6. Try a natural-language question in Cascade chat.
Zed Context servers

Config file

  1. Open Zed → open your settings.json (Command Palette → “zed: open settings”).
  2. Add an MCP / context server entry pointing to the Spectosoft URL below (see Zed docs for the exact key name in your version).
  3. Restart Zed.
  4. When prompted, authorize with Spectosoft in the browser.
  5. Use the assistant panel to query Spectosoft data.
Cline (VS Code extension) Extension

Config

  • Cline sidebar → MCP Servers → Configure, or cline_mcp_settings.json
  1. Install the Cline extension in VS Code if you have not already.
  2. Open Cline → MCP Servers → add a new remote HTTP server.
  3. Use the Spectosoft URL from the shared config below (name it “spectosoft”).
  4. Save, reload VS Code, and connect when Cline prompts you.
  5. Sign in through the browser with your Spectosoft account.
Continue (VS Code / JetBrains) config.yaml

Config file

  1. Open Continue settings and edit config.yaml.
  2. Under mcpServers, add the Spectosoft entry with the URL below (see Continue docs for remote HTTP MCP).
  3. Reload the IDE extension.
  4. Authenticate when Continue opens the browser flow.
Other MCP clients Any HTTP + OAuth client

Universal pattern

  • Any mcp.json / MCP settings screen that accepts a remote server URL
  1. Your client must support remote MCP over HTTPS (Streamable HTTP) and OAuth sign-in — the same pattern as Cursor and Claude Desktop.
  2. Add one server named “spectosoft” with the URL below.
  3. Trigger Connect / Authorize in that app and complete Spectosoft login in the browser.
  4. If your tool only supports local command-based MCP (stdio), ask your IT team — they may need a different setup with a secure token.

Privacy & access

This connection does not give the AI vendor a separate copy of your database. Requests go to your Spectosoft backend using your login. Managers only see their teams; admins see what their role allows — same as the website. If you disconnect or your session ends, the assistant stops fetching new data.

FAQ

Do I need a separate Spectosoft account?

No. Use the same email and organisation you already have. If you cannot log in to spectosoft.com, you cannot connect here either.

Does this replace the Spectosoft website?

No. It adds convenience inside AI tools (Cursor, Claude, VS Code, etc.). For official reports, charts, and exports, keep using the web app.

Which MCP clients are supported?

Any client that supports remote MCP over HTTPS with OAuth — including Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code (Copilot MCP), Windsurf, Zed, Cline, and Continue. See the connect section for step-by-step instructions per app.

Who can see what?

Exactly what your Spectosoft role allows — nothing more. A team lead cannot ask for data outside their scope.

Is my data sent to OpenAI or Cursor?

Spectosoft serves the facts from your company’s system. Your AI tool then words the answer. Check your company’s policy on using AI assistants with work data.
